E3 2009: Heavy Rain

If you've ever played Quantic Dream's Indigo Prophecy, also known as Fahrenheit, you'll be happy to know Heavy Rain does not stray too far from the 2005 sleeper. In Heavy Rain, you play four different characters who are in search of a serial killer terrorizing a New England town in present day. The first character we come across is Norman Jayden, an FBI profiler, who has come to question a junkyard owner about a vehicle that could have belonged to the killer. We meet Mad Jack who may, or may not, have information about it...

E3 2009: Borderlands

Are you a fan or RPGs? How about FPSes? What about both? Well, Borderlands from 2K Games and Gearbox just happens to be that. With playing up to four characters you can level, name, choose and build your character any way you want, while shooting creatures in the face. The first thing I thought was this is Diablo from a first person view. Diablo is one of my most favorite games ever, so this makes me plenty happy.

EALA First Look: Dead Space Extraction

Dead Space Extraction for Wii is the prequel to the Xbox 360's Dead Space. The game tells the story of how the Necromorph infection began and ends around the time Issac Asimov arrives at the Ishimura. As I demoed the game, I found that the team is not holding anything back in terms of spookiness, as this rail shooter brings us closer to finding what really happened.

Viscereal Studios Lead Designer Wright Bagwell explains to us that they wanted to make sure Extraction tied in with all the other Dead Space properties. If you are familiar with the series, you will be rewarded with some of the tie in's that happen throughout.

EA Sports Active

We got to check out EA Sports Active at EA3, the Electronic Arts pre E3 show. Now, I own Wii Fit, but the first thing I said to myself was, "after Active, I can cool down with Fit." I'll tell you that after a brief demo, my legs were feeling the burn and needed the stretch!

I was shown the activities by the Active Girl herself, Kathryn Peck, who looked like she had just gotten out of the gym. That is in no offense, just that this game WORKS and makes you sweat!

Capcom Pre-E3 Preview

We got to check out Capcom's pre-E3 line-up with Dark Void being one of their highlights. Dark Void is a sci-fi adventure that follows the journey of a cargo pilot, Will. They are not telling us where in time the game takes place, just that it's not in present day. Will ends up crash landing in the Bermuda Triangle where he runs into other survivors who have all ended up there somehow. The idea was to have places like the Bermuda Triangle and other mysterious places around Earth all lead to this "Void."  Of course the void is much easier to get into than it is getting out of, and we aren't even sure if we are still in Earth. Along in his travels, Will meets a gentleman by the name of Nikola Tesla who builds him a jetback, any sort of gear and all the crazy gadgets Will needs to escape. As the journey progresses, the world becomes more uncanny and alien which leads Will to understand that he is not on Earth anymore, but must find a way back to save it.

Madworld vs NIMF! Interview with GameTrailer’s Shane Shatterfield

Recently, the National Institute on Media and the Family (NIMF) stated their concerns with the release of the game MadWorld for Wii. NIMF stated that Nintendo has "shed its 'family friendly' reputation with MadWorld's release." The President of NIMF, Dr. David Walsh, also stated, "In the past, the Wii has successfully sold itself as being the gaming console for the entire family and a way to bring family-game nights back into people's living rooms. Unfortunately, Nintendo opened its doors to the violent videogame genre. The National Institute on Media and the Family hopes that Nintendo does not lose sight of its initial audience and continues to offer quality, family-friendly games."
